Final A2 Music Video - Luna Lux - East of Eden

Equipment

Final Digipak

This is the final product of the Digipak. We have taken and manipulated these photos, to help them fit in with the star image of Luna Lux. All of these photos were taken at different times, as we took loads to see what they were like and if we weren’t happy with them then we went back out and took more pictures, with different ideas to avoid having the same problem we may have had each time.

Digipak Shooting Pictures

Development of Editing Our Digipak Pictures

Kaleidoscope Effect Picture

We wanted to create a kaleidoscope effect on some of our digipak pictures, as due to audience feedback we found that from our first and second plan the digipak pictures were too plain. We researched affects which would fit the indie genre to find that kaleidoscopes were included and fitted our artists style. We really liked this idea and used this affect for one of our pictures. This was used to make the digipak more interesting for consumers and to help identify her star image.

We gained inspiration from the following pictures:

Digipak Shoot Day 1

These are some of the images taken when shooting for our digipak. This image is was taken with the flash gun on. The problem with this picture is that it’s quite dark which means that when we edit the photos and get rid of the green screen that it would be very hard to do. As you can see from the second image, the quality of the photographs are much better when the flash gun is used. This would be much better for us to edit with as the camera has got the most amount of light, which also means that the picture will be of a higher quality and we can do more with it.

We cover our artist in a range of different flowers. We used real flowers to make the picture look more natural and authentic. We chose to use bright colours which would allow 'Luna Lux' to stand out. The contrast between the bright flowers and her black clothing. This will juxtapose with what she is wearing which would highlight her of being very light and flowery.

Weather Forecast

Above is a weather report for the day that we was planning to shoot our digipak. For our digipak, it requires us to go outside into the woods. This means that we need the weather to be nice so that it isn't dark/raining in the forests. For us to be able to take our digipak pictures, we need the weather to needed the weather to be perfect.
From looking on my phone, we found the forecast for the weather in London, Brentwood and Essex. This can help us get a good idea of what it is going to be like and when would be an appropriate day to go. From looking at the forecast Thursday seems like a day that we should avoid due to the forecast of snow.
As the artist will be wearing a dress, we do not want her to cold. The equipment that we are going to use would also get wet in conditions like that. However, Monday and Tuesday seem to have the best weather for the next couple of weeks as it is meant to be clear sky’s which means that we can have the optimal amount of light for our photos. This could be really good and the camera responds better to the lighter there is.

Luna Lux in comparison to Laura Mulvey's Theory

When the audience first watch East of Eden, it looks as though our music video supports this theory. She is wearing a long see through dress which shows her figure, the swimming pool shots are very revealing which could be seen as are artist trying to get male attention.  However, in these shots we have added overlay and fading to make them seem less revealing for an audience to watch. We also consider how see though her dress is and added white leggings and a vest top when filming. Without these, the dress falls low down the artists make which could seem to support Mulvey's theory of the women being sexualised in the media. We took many things into account when creating our music video as we didn't want our artist to seem sexualised within the media.

Throughout making the video we avoided trying to make our artist seem like she wants male attention from wearing less clothes. We wanted to make the artist look like she is trying to make women confident with whom they are. We did this by making our artist stand out from the crowd showing that she is not afraid to be different and conform like everybody else, this will hopefully give women the confidence to be themselves and be different because, nobody should be the same. This is something that we would like to achieve when women reflect on themselves.

Social Media Accounts

We created social media accounts for our artist to help promote her. From researching different artists we have found that they largely look to social media to add promotion. It is free and easy to use meaning that artists are able to target a wider range of people though these social media accounts. For example, even Justin Bieber was discovered from posting videos on YouTube. All these different artists use it to there advantage. It has allowed One Direction to expand massively, with the help on twitter they were able to move there target audience into America. We talked to our target audience to find out what social media was most effective and used in their age range. we found that the most popular sites were Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. These are based on our target audience. We created the following to allow fans to gain information on her and gain a better insight into her as a person. These sites really allow audiences to become closer to the artist. The problem with these sites are that they can trigger hate comments which could put an artist down. We found that the artist would have to completely commit to these sites and put hate behind them. All artists suffer from this due to having a certain target market.

Audience Vote For Digipak Cover

This shows the shows the different effects we had created for the digipak front cover. We created these to ask our target audience which one they preferred and would like to see on our digipak.

We got mixed reviews from our audiences but our target audience picked example 6 as they felt it fitted well with Luna Lux's star image.

Digipak Drafts

Rough plan -
This plan was created as a starting point for our digipak.

Plan 1 -

We created a digipak with the collaboration of many things:
- Our star image
- Aspects from our music video
- Group ideas
- Audience preferences
- Media Conventions

From creating this basis for our digipak, we then changed our digipak due to audience feedback.
We found that the audience thought there needed to be more technique elements to our digipak as they found the horses picture plain. Our audience took into consideration that some pictures were yet to be finished. They found the CD should include something other than a plan CD.
We acted on this feeback to create a digipak more tailored to our target audience. Below our second draft is shown.
Plan 2 -

Digipak - Horse pictures

When planning our digipak we wanted to include a range of different pictures. We found that we didn't want to include our artist on every panel as we wanted to keep the wonderland theme on our digipak to engage different audiences.

This is a plan for our digipak. We want to include our artist on the middle CD panel with the horses facing her either side. We feel that this gives the audience an insight into the 'East of Eden' digipak. These plan pictures helped us piece together our digipak and get a sense of what we wanted to achieve from it.

Digipak Plans

In my group, we all made a plan ourselves which we then shared as a group to where we made a plan which incorporated all of the ideas that we liked from each others. For example, lyrics on one panel. There were a lot of similarities within our own plans as we all wanted to have a close up of the artist as the front cover, as this would help to help her star image and people to recognise her.  From planning our digipak like this way it means that everyone would be happy with what we have included, but also its a way for us to create the best digipak for our target audience as we can. I feel that this technique worked well for working in a team as we could pitch our ideas of why we wanted the digipak like that and take aspects from each one.

References to music videos

This is a video highlights how we have followed some of the conventions of our genre in our main product. This video gives a few examples to show this. The conventions are film grain, overlay, position whilst singing (sitting), no emotion and costumes.

From reflecting on our findings,I feel that our attempt develop the conventions in some places has worked correctly as it fits our artist's image. For example, our artist isn't as dark as Luna Del Ray which means that we have made our aritst more unique and special within her genre.
