Digipak - Analysis and change of genre

The xx - Genre Change

When looking at digipak's we found many different styles for them. Our group decided that it would be a good idea to take a digipak and redesign it into a different genre. The original album for 'The XX' whos genre is indie pop, is only black and white. We decided to change this into a singer/songwriter digipak. We thought that floral patterns would link well with these artist as they are innocent, sweet and tend to like vintage patterns. For example, Lauren Aquilian and Gabrielle Aplin. We chose the colours for the digipak as we found that they would link well with them as they are girly and this would appeal to their target audience. This digipak was easy to change into a different genre, because it was only patterns and not any images. We found that changing this was easy and we need to think about mise-en-scene a lot to show the genre of digipak and the artist. This is something we need consider when creating our own for our chosen artist as we need to make it catch the target audiences attention. Doing this task allowed us to really look into how the genre can be changed in digipaks. If I was to do this in future, I would pick a harder genre to convey to the audience as they would be challenging ourselves.
